Superior Energy’s Dirty Business Practices
Superior Energy conduct unethical business practices as part of doing business.
In October 2008, they offered an incentive cheque if I would renew for 5 years for natural gas supply. I agreed verbally (over the phone with one of their agents) to enroll in exchange for the incentive cheque.
Today, May 6/09, they have not mailed the cheque and advise I’m bound to their contract (8 cents/kwh higher than the rate they’re offering now) and cannot terminate the contract without paying a $652 penalty.
They further advised me they don’t have to follow through on incentives they offer. They have the right to offer incentives, but don’t have to deliver.
To sum it up, they offer bribes, secure verbal agreements over taped phone lines, then refuse to deliver incentives. When I told them their business practices were unethical, I was told by Sandy (Management, Customer Services) at 905-285-2481 that they don’t have to deliver incentives.
Absolutely amazing that such corrupt business practices are permitted in this country.
Currently the Ontario Energy Commission are involved, however, Sandy advised they don’t have the authority to overrule Superior Energy’s decision (to force cheated consumers into agreements). At this point I can only highly encourage others to STAY AWAY FROM SUPERIOR ENERGY. They will promise you an incentive, lock you in at a high rate, refuse to deliver the incentive and attempt to force you to pay a penalty to terminate the contract. Absolutely disgusting.

The Tragic Loss of Prejudging Others
Last night I listened to an extraordinary call in which a colleague of mine shared how he had almost lost a friendship by denying a friend the opportunity to better his life, because he hadn’t shared a business opportunity with him. The friend later learned of the business venture from someone else and was terribly hurt because his friend (my colleague) didn’t think he would be interested.
Today a friend shared another great example of how pre-judging others can leave us sitting with our mouth’s open and sometimes with our heads hung in shame.
Enjoy this video and take the lesson from it. YOU NEVER KNOW what someone has in them. Give them the opportunity to let their light shine and they just might amaze you. Imagine if Susan Boyle was never given the chance to sing…

Stop Net ‘Working’!
Have you heard of Jan Vermeiren of Brussels, Belgium?
He’s a marketing expert who teaches the power of the “Second Degree.”
What he teaches is that the true power of networking is NOT in the people that YOU know, but in the people that THEY know.
And it’s called the “Second Degree.”
First Degree -> People that YOU know.
Second Degree -> People that know the people you know.
When you understand this powerful principle, it helps you in several ways…
1. It takes the pressure off of you to try to sell your services to people you meet while networking (which you shouldn’t be doing anyway).
2. It frees you up to have fun and be yourself. It turns networking into “friend building”.
3. It helps you to understand that ANYONE could be an important contact for you…because you never know WHO KNOWS WHO!
I loved learning about Jan and the Second Degree because this practice is what I’ve been teaching attendees at our monthly SendOutCards networking events.
When you stop looking at people as being “the ones” you must sell to and simply focus on forming friendships and getting to know them, it becomes easier, stress-free and much more effective.
